Qalsody

(tofersen)

Qalsody is a medication specifically approved for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) associated with a mutation in the SOD1 gene. It works by inhibiting the complement system, a part of the immune system that plays a role in the progression of ALS.

RELYVRIO

RELYVRIO is a combination of two drugs called riluzole and sodium phenylbutyrate. It is indicated for the treatment of ALS and is thought to work by preventing nerve cell death. It is available as an oral suspension.

Rilutek

(riluzole)

Rilutek is an oral medication that was the first drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of ALS. It works by reducing the release of glutamate, a neurotransmitter that is believed to play a role in the death of motor neurons in ALS.

Tiglutik is a liquid formulation of riluzole that is administered orally. It is indicated for the treatment of ALS and provides an alternative to the tablet form of riluzole.

Nuedexta

Nuedexta is a medication approved for the treatment of pseudobulbar affect (PBA), a condition characterized by sudden and uncontrollable episodes of laughing or crying. PBA can occur in people with ALS, among other neurological conditions.

Edaravone

(brand name: Radicava)

Edaravone is an intravenous medication approved for the treatment of ALS. It is an antioxidant that is thought to work by reducing oxidative stress, which can contribute to the progression of ALS. It was the first new treatment for ALS in 22 years when it was approved.
